Writing Coaches of Montana has a lot to say about how great our communities are.

The Joys of Volunteering

When I moved to Kalispell after retirement, I was looking for a place to volunteer and make a positive impact. A newspaper article was my first introduction to Writing Coaches of Montana! I signed up for the training—one of the best decisions I have made in years.

Here are a few samples of what this group does for me:

It makes me:
- Smile...when I see a new notification that a school has requested our help and I can add     it to my event calendar,
- Smile…when I enter each school to observe the incredible activities that are taking place
- Smile…when the students come to me, looks of trepidation, not realizing that I have apprehensions, too
- Smile…when a “spark” reaches their eyes, a smile is on their face; a difference has been ‘achieved’ (hopefully)
- Smile and Tear Up…when students take time to write and thank us for helping them

Here are a few hopes/wishes/aspirations that I have for students:

I hope students:
- Smile…when they hear we are coming to their classroom
- Smile… when writers come to meet us with their work. Before we begin writing, I ask them to tell me something about themselves so they know I am interested in them personally.
- Smile…when they hear I will ‘meet them wherever they are’ in their writing project
- Smile…when they finish their writing and feel that they have received the help and encouragement they were hoping would transpire.

Writing Coaches of Montana is truly making a difference throughout our communities. Our group is diverse, consisting of individuals from various walks of life. Some of us are retired, while others are just starting our careers. Among us are teachers, doctors, lawyers, therapists, editors, parents...just to name a few. It is a genuine joy to meet and interact with everyone involved, united by our shared commitment to supporting students and fostering growth.

Come join us…you won’t regret it!
